But Wait! What Is A Superfood?

Good nutrition is the key to a healthy body and a healthy mind. Eating a balanced diet and getting the necessary intake of vitamins and minerals helps our bodies function properly.

Certain foods have great nutritional value and have beneficial effects on our body. They are called superfoods.

Thanks to advances in health and nutrition, we are discovering that there are foods rich in vitamins, trace elements, and antioxidants that we did not know before. They help us slow down aging or certain diseases. Along with this, they have many more benefits as well and should be part of everyone’s diet. Not only are they beneficial for our health and fitness but they taste amazing as well! 

Why Eat Superfoods?

Super foods are generally believed to retain their nutritional value and are not processed.

They are rich in healthy enzymes, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, and fibers.

They protect you against disease thanks to their antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory power.

They're highly recommended for vegans and vegetarians as well as nonvegetarians. They have special and exotic flavors, and can sometimes be very difficult to find in supermarkets.

The consumption of super foods has become a fad that is growing day by day. More and more people are discovering the power of superfoods. Some well-known examples are chia seeds, maca, spirulina, quinoa, hemp seeds, barley, pea protein, Reishi, etc.

These super foods can be eaten on their own or added to other dishes to make your menus much richer. In the spirit of the season, we have created some Christmas recipes to surprise your family and friends during your Christmas dinner.

Christmas Recipes With Superfoods

Maca Nougat

 Ingredients:

  •  200 g raw almonds
  •  50 g coconut sugar
  •  200 g birch sugar
  •  40 g of Maca
  •  1 egg white
  •  50 ml of water
  •  Zest of an unprocessed lemon

 Preparation:

  • Toast the almonds in the oven at around 170ºC until they turn golden.
  • Pour the 50ml of water into a saucepan with the coconut sugar and bring to a boil until you have a syrup. At the same time, reduce the powdered birch sugar.
  • Once the almonds are roasted, cut them into pieces with your blender.  Mix the almonds with the birch sugar, maca powder and lemon zest.
  • Add the egg white and coconut sugar syrup and mix everything together.
  • Shape in a rectangular mold and cover with cling film. Leave to rest in the fridge for at least 2 hours.

 Christmas Snowmen

 Ingredients:

  •  150 g ground almonds
  •  200 g birch sugar
  •  25 g of maca powder
  •  1 egg
  •  25 g of reishi powder

 Preparation:

  • Powder the birch sugar and mix it with the ground almond. Separate the egg yolk from the white, and beat the yolk with the sugar and almond to obtain a marzipan-like paste.
  • Divide the dough into two equal parts. Pour with the maca powder in one bowl and with the reishi powder in another.  
  • Knead each ball of dough and shape it into figurines. Let your imagination run free!  Brush with

 Reishi Chocolate 

 Ingredients:

  •  2 teaspoon of Reishi powder
  •  4 teaspoon of pure cocoa powder
  •  1 liter of milk or vegetable drink (almonds, oats, soybeans, rice, etc.)
  • A dash cinnamon powder
  •  1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  •  2 teaspoon of coconut sugar

 Preparation:

  •  Heat your chosen drink and add all the ingredients, leaving the reishi for the end, when the temperature drops.  
  • To be faster, you can mix all the ingredients together and then reheat them.
  • It’s ready to drink!
