Most Affordable Electric Cars To Reduce Your Overall Travel Costs

E lectric vehicles are notorious for being more costly than their ICE-powered counterparts, but as technology advances, the price difference between the two is shrinking rapidly. They are attracting new buyers by becoming more affordable each year. The Skoda CITIGOe iV is now the cheapest vehicle on the market, costing at £15,000, with several other electric cars valued at around the £16,000 figure. As a rule, the cheapest electric vehicles in 2021 will be Fiat, Skoda, Mazda, and Vauxhall.

The Best Affordable Electric Cars

Whether you're searching for these vehicles or something else entirely, here's a list of some of the most affordable electric cars available.

Mini Electric

The Mini Electric brings all of the brand's fun elements to the tiny EV category, but with a few equally expected usability catches. The Mini Electric is based only on the 3 door Mini bodyshell and uses the BMW i3S engine, which gives it a strong 181bhp and 199lb ft of torque.

The performance is noticeably better than many of the vehicles on our list, and the handling is gripping, darty, and nimble in the Mini brand's long dynamic traditions. It appeals to us greatly.

With this one, the catch is the range. Mini promises 144 miles, but you're more likely to get between 100 and 120 miles depending on how and where you drive it. And that's in a vehicle with a tiny trunk, rear seats that are difficult to reach and, in any case, aren't suitable for anybody other than little children. However, as a more affordable version of a driver's EV, it's one of the best.

Peugeot e-208

The e-208 hatchback has been available since February 2020, and we think it's an excellent value for the money. The Peugeot 208, one of the most popular vehicles in the UK, now comes with a completely electric 50kWh battery that produces 138 horsepower.

A fantastic city vehicle with a range of around 217 miles (WLTP), it's also suitable for longer journeys. The MyPeugeot App, which enables drivers to monitor the condition of the vehicle as well as activate, stop, and schedule a charge, may be used to manage it remotely. The estimated mileage is 217 (WLTP), and the quick charge option enables for up to 80% charging in 30 minutes.

Chevrolet Bolt EV, EUV, 2022

Chevrolet's tiny electric hatchback has a new appearance and a beginning price reduction of more than $5,000. GM's parent company is also promising to assist consumers with the cost of installing a 240-volt home charger, as an extra value proposition to compensate for GM's loss of government incentives that competitor EVs may still get. For 2022, the Bolt EV will get a new sister, the Bolt EUV, a significantly bigger SUV-like vehicle.

The Bolt EV's most noticeable design modification is a more upright front end with "high-eye" daytime running lights and turn signals, as well as lower-set headlamps. It sports redesigned seats and updated instrument panel with a 10.2-inch touchscreen as standard and an optional 8-inch gauge display. Toggles and buttons are used in a novel shifter design.

The EUV's beginning pricing is cheaper than the 2021 Bolt EV, although being a little more costly than the smaller Bolt EV. Despite the fact that the two Bolts seem to be identical, Chevy claims they have no external sheet metal in common. The EUV is the first Chevy to offer GM's Super Cruise driver-assist technology for hands-free driving on appropriate roads; it's a $2,200 option that's only available on the Premier trim level. The EUV, like the Bolt EV, offers standard fast charging and a new dual-level charge cable.

MG ZS EV SUV

Few anticipated MG to build an electric vehicle, and when the ZS EV debuted, several people were surprised. Although it is more costly than the petrol ZS, it is one of the most affordable electric vehicles presently available; with the government subsidy, it costs less than £25,000. It's still a big, practical SUV, and the electric motor has completely changed the driving experience.

The ZS EV is four seconds faster from 0 to 62 mph than the turbocharged petrol, and it has a range of up to 163 miles (or 231 if you stick within city limits). The inside isn't as luxurious as a luxury car's, but it's still relatively well equipped, with sat nav, DAB radio, and smartphone mirroring all available on the base model. The ZS's 448-litre trunk is large for the class, and the conversion to electric power has no effect on it.

Nissan Leaf 2022

Nissan has reduced the price of the 2022 Leaf, making it the cheapest EV on the market this year. The Leaf comes with a 40-kwh battery pack with a range of 149 miles, but for $33,375, you can upgrade to a 62-kwh pack with a maximum range of 226 miles. All Leafs feature a single engine with front-wheel drive and now have DC fast-charging, which was previously only available on higher-end versions.

The cost is set at an affordable $28,375. The EPA claims a range of 149 miles. Its standard technology enables DC rapid charging, which is complemented with a 240V charging connection.

With the OG Nissan Leaf, we come to the end of our list for the most affordable electric cars you can get your hands on in 2022. If you’re looking for something more specific in terms of design and mileage, the cars mentioned at the beginning of the article may be the models you look at next. All in all, we predict that electric cars will largely if not entirely replace their counterparts by 2024.

Go forth and buy any of these affordable electric cars now. It is better for the environment and your pocket!
